Detroit festival band The Thrift Shop Cowboys delivering acoustic Americana and classic cover songs live

Who We Are

The Thrift Shop Cowboys are a Detroit, Michigan–based acoustic Americana band led by longtime collaborators Niko Eklund (vocals, banjo, kazoo) and Warren Liverance (vocals, upright bass, harmonica). Writing partners and bandmates since 1991, they blend timeless American music with playful originality.

Spanning Stephen Foster to Nirvana, Gershwin to Johnny Cash, the Cowboys reinterpret classics while mixing in their own original songs. Their signature banjo-and-bass sound is warm, roots-driven, and refreshingly unexpected.

For select shows, the duo expands into a trio with rotating third member JJ on guitar and vocals, adding depth and energy. Perfect for weddings, festivals, private parties, and corporate events, The Thrift Shop Cowboys deliver music that’s easy on the ears, full of character, and guaranteed to leave audiences smiling.
